Day 1: Arrive in Lima

After your flight lands at Lima Jorge Chavez airport, follow the signs for immigration, then walk to the baggage claim area, and then get to customs. After clearing customs, you will be in the International arrivals area, where our staff, who will be holding a sign with your name, will welcome you and drive you to your hotel located in Miraflores, the nicest and safest area of Lima, facing the Pacific Ocean!

Day 2: Flight Lima - Puerto Maldonado - Posada Amazonas

After breakfast, you will be picked up from your hotel and driven to Lima airport to board your flight to Puerto Maldonado city. You will be assisted with your flight check-in, baggage drop-off, and then escorted to the entrance to the security check area. Before heading to Posada Amazonas, you will be driven to the Lodge office in town, here you will register, enjoy your first taste of the forest, leave the excess luggage in a safe deposit and get ready for your Amazon adventure in Peru!

Once you join your Amazon tour group, you will have a private 20-kilometer bus journey to the Tambopata River Port, located in the Native Community of Infierno.

Boat ride from Infierno Community to Posada Amazonas Lodge

Estimated boat ride time: one hour

After a short explanation about the local community lifestyle, we will embark on an exciting boat ride on Tambopata River toward Posada Amazonas Lodge, located in Tambopata Reserve.  It will be a great opportunity to see birds like macaws and herons flying around the trees and even alligators and capybaras! A box lunch will be provided during your boat journey (vegetarian food is available).

Upon arrival at Posada Amazonas, you will be welcomed by the lodge manager who will provide you with all the information needed to ensure you have a safe and enjoyable adventure in the Peruvian Amazon.

Please notice that your guide will provide you with the necessary information in advance of every excursion. Your itinerary may be modified due to seasonal weather conditions that may affect the access to certain areas.

Canopy Tower

Your afternoon will start with a twenty-minute walk from Posada Amazonas to the 40-meter scaffolding canopy tower. After a short climb, you will be able to enjoy some of the most spectacular views of the vast expanses of standing forest cut by the Tambopata River winding through the middle. You will have the chance to see Toucans, parrots or macaws flying against the horizon, and monkeys running across branches of the trees.

Ecotourism Lecture

After dinner, there will be a presentation about ecotourism projects in Tambopata National Reserve.

Day 3: Tres Chimbadas Oxbow Lake

Your second day in the Amazon starts very early in the morning, you will have a thirty-minute boat ride and then a forty-five-minute walk to Tres Chimbadas Lake. Upon arrival at the lake, we will paddle around in a catamaran, searching for the resident family of nine giant river otters (seen by 60% of our lake visitors) and other lakeside wildlife such as caimans, hoatzin and horned screamers. Otters are most active from dawn to eight or nine in the morning.

Parrot Clay Lick

Your morning continues with a birdwatching activity, a twenty-minute walk from Posada Amazonas will lead you to a Parrot Clay Lick; from a blind located only twenty meters from the Clay Lick, you will observe parrots and parakeets eating the clay on a river bank, however there is a chance to see other birds like Mealy and Yellow- headed Amazon, Blue-headed Parrot and Dusky Headed-Parakeet. The clay lick is active at dawn, during the late mornings and mid-afternoons.

Ethnobotanical Tour

After lunch you will have a twenty-minute boat ride downriver to a medicinal forest-plants trail designed by the staff of the Centro Ñape, a communal organization that produces medicines out of forest plants and administers them to patients who choose their little clinic located in the middle of the Amazon rainforest. On this trail you will learn about the different medicinal (and other) uses of selected plants.

Night walk

After dinner you will have the option of hiking out at night, when most of the mammals are active but rarely seen. Much easier to find are frogs with shapes and sounds as bizarre as their natural histories.

Day 4: Posada Amazonas Lodge to Puerto Maldonado city. Cusco

After breakfast, we retrace our river and road journey back to Puerto Maldonado city. Depending on airline schedules, this may require dawn departures.

Upon arrival at Posada Amazonas office in Puerto Maldonado, you will collect your excess luggage and then will be driven to the airport to board your flight to Cusco city. You will be assisted with your flight check-in and baggage drop-off, then escorted to the entrance to the security check area.

Day 5: Sacred Valley Tour

Hotel pickup time: 08:00 a.m.

After breakfast, you are picked up from your hotel and join your tour group to start an exciting guided adventure in the sacred valley of the Incas!

Your tour starts with a smooth drive to the valley of the Incas, on the way you will enjoy the stunning views of snow-capped mountains, green hills, and the beautiful fields of Giant corns, potatoes, beans and wheat.
Your guide will show you the highlights of the Inca Ruins of Pisac and then continue with a visit to the famous Pisac Market, here you can see the local families selling their products and handicraft. The trip includes visits to Quechua colorful villages like Yucay and Ollantaytambo where you will be able to interact with the locals and learn about their ancient customs and traditions.
After lunch, you will be driven to Ollantaytambo village, here you will explore Qosqo Ayllu, the ancient Inca town that keeps its original walls and layout as it was during the Inca times, and still inhabited to the present. Your guide will show you the amazing Inca site of Ollantaytambo, here the Incas made one of their last stands against the Spanish.

After visiting Ollantaytambo village, you will be transferred to the train station to board the vista dome train to Aguas Calientes (Machu Picchu Pueblo).

Day 6: Machu Picchu

Today, you will be picked up from your hotel and escorted to the bus stop for a 30-minute bus journey to the archaeological site of Machu Picchu.

Upon arrival in Machu Picchu, you and your guide will enter the citadel and start your adventure in this amazing UNESCO Heritage Site. Exploring the remarkable architectural structures of Machu Picchu, enjoying the wonderful views of the Incas’ world, and learning about the history of this site, who lived here, how it was discovered in modern times and why the Spaniards never found it are just experiences of a lifetime!

You will have some insight into the various features of this sacred city and have free time to really enjoy yourself alone in this spectacularly located site, an unforgettable experience that will stay with you forever!

After your Machu Picchu tour, you will board the bus to Aguas Calientes, where you will have lunch and then board the train back to Ollantaytambo village.

Day 7: Cusco

Afternoon Cusco City Tour and nearby Inca Ruins Tour

This afternoon, you are picked up from your hotel, join your tour group and start your visit to the beautiful city of Cusco, a UNESCO World Heritage Site!

Your Cusco tour starts with a smooth walk to the main attractions of this Inca city, its main square known as Plaza de Armas, then the Cusco Cathedral which construction started in 1559 and has an impressive unique collection of more than 400 paintings from Cusco school made during the 16th and 17th century. Next, you walk through the narrow Inca streets close the Plaza and appreciate the massive Inca walls which are the foundations of Cusco city.

Your tour includes a visit to the most impressive Inca temples, Koricancha, which is known as the temple of the sun. During the Inca time, the walls of this temple were lined in sheets of solid gold and its courtyard was decorated with statues and ornaments of gold! You tour includes a visit to Santo Domingo Church built by the Spanish colonists.

After visiting the city of Cusco, we will head to the Archaeological Park of Sacsayhuaman located on the outskirts of the city. Here you will learn more about the Incas’ secrets while exploring this amazing fortress and enjoying its beautiful perfectly fitted walls, built with massive stones! We continue to Qenko ruins, a site of carved living rock, then to Puca Pucara, an Inca lodging Site and finally Tambo Machay, known as the Baths of the Inca. At the end, you will have an amazing view of the Inca city and surrounding areas.

Day 8: Tourist bus ride Cusco - Puno

The bus journey includes visits to Andahuaylillas, Raqchi, La Raya and Pukara.

Day 9: Adventure on Lake Titicaca

After an early breakfast, you will be picked up from your hotel and transferred to Puno pier to start your adventure on the highest navigable Lake in the world. The first stop will be on the floating Totora reed Islands of The Uros where we will interact with local families and learn how these pre-Incan people have lived. We continue our journey onto Taquile Islands, here we will learn more about Inca’s culture and traditions; their lifestyle remains the same as it has been for centuries with very little influence from modern times. Day 10: Lima city tour

This morning, you are picked up from your hotel and join your tour group. You will be driven to the Historic Center of Lima, where you will learn about the colonial past of Peru and how it is still reflected in modern times.

The Historic Center of Lima known as “the City of the Kings”, was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1988 due to its outstanding value not only by its high concentration of historic monuments but also due to Lima played an important role in the history of the New World from the 16th to the 18th century.

Your guide will lead you through the main old streets of Lima Antigua and explore its beautiful monuments, balconies (Lima has more than 1500 balconies) and the Colonial houses adorned with Moorish-style balconies, where the first Spanish families lived during the colonial period.

Walking along the Plaza de Armas, see the baroque cathedral, the Government Palace, the Archbishop’s Palace with its big carved wooden balconies, and a visit inside the convent of San Francisco is a unique way to learn about the history of Peru.

By the way, San Francisco convent is home to the largest collection of religious art in the Americas and underneath the convent, lie extensive catacombs that served as the cemetery during the colonial period.

After your Lima tour you will be driven to Lima airport to board your flight back home.
