Choquequirao which in Quechua language means “Cradle of Gold” is known as Machu Picchu’s siter city and considered one of the last Refuge of the Inca Empire.

Day 1: Arrive in Lima

After your flight lands at Lima Jorge Chavez airport, follow the signs for immigration, then walk to the baggage claim area, and then get to customs. After clearing customs, you will be in the International arrivals area, where our staff, who will be holding a sign with your name, will welcome you and drive you to your hotel located in Miraflores, the nicest and safest area of Lima, facing the Pacific Ocean!

Day 2: Flight from Lima to Cusco. Sacred Valley

Hotel pickup time: two hours and thirty minutes before flight departure
Estimated Flight time: one hour and ten minutes

After breakfast, you will be picked up from your hotel and driven to Lima airport to board your flight to Cusco City. You will be assisted with your flight check-in, baggage drop-off, and then escorted to the entrance to the security check area. Notice that gates and departure times may change, please check the airport monitors.

Upon arrival at Cusco airport, follow the signs for the baggage claim area, after collecting your luggage you will be in the arrivals area, where our staff will welcome you and drive you to the Sacred Valley, the most comfortable area to adjust to the altitude.

On the way to your hotel you will enjoy visiting Awanacancha center and Pisac village and Market.

Cusco – Awanacancha Farm. Feed Llamas and Alpacas!

Our staff will drive you to Awanacancha farm. The fun can’t wait, here you will feed Llamas and Alpacas, take pictures with them and learn about the amazing textiles made by the Quechua weavers in the Peruvian Andes.

Awanacancha – Pisac Market & Empanadas

Estimated driving time: twenty minutes

After visiting Awanacancha you will be driven to the peaceful Quechua village of Pisac, a perfect place to immerse yourself in the Quechua world!  Here you will explore its famous Indian market and interact with Quechua families who sell unique handicraft and amazing souvenirs, some of them wearing their traditional outfit. You will also have the chance to try the delicious Empanadas made in a wood-burning oven!

After visiting Pisac you will be driven to your hotel located in the sacred valley, the most comfortable area to adjust to the altitude.

Day 3: Ollantaytambo and Qosqo Ayllu

After breakfast, you will be picked up from your hotel and driven to Ollantaytambo village located in the Incas’ sacred valley, here you will explore not only the village but also Qosqo Ayllu, the ancient Inca town that keeps its original walls and layout as it was during the Inca times, and still inhabited to the present.

Your visit includes climbing the Inca terraces of Ollantaytambo fortress, you will enjoy not only amazing views but also learn how the Incas made one of their last stands against the Spanish! This afternoon is yours to rest and get ready for your Choquequirao trekking adventure.

Day 4: Start your Choquequirao trek

After a very early breakfast, you are picked up by your guide from your hotel, and driven to the Andean village of Cachora located at 2909 meters (9544 feet) above sea level, the starting point of your adventure to Choquequirao and where we meet our trek crew of Quechua wranglers and Cook, and have our packs on mules.

From the trailhead we embark on a three-hour hike to Capuliyoc Mirador located at 2800 meters (9186 feet) above sea level, here we will have lunch and enjoy amazing views of the Apurimac River and Canyon surrounded by majestic snow-capped mountains and have our first views of the Cradle of gold.

After lunch, we have a hike down to Chiquisca located at 1930 meters (6332 feet) above sea level, where our tents will be set up to spend the night.

Day 5: Choquequirao trek

Estimated hiking time: nine hours

After an early consistent breakfast, we start our trek to Choquequirao, today may be the hardest part of the whole trek because we will have downhill and uphill hikes!

We will descend to the hanging bridge of Rosalina and cross Apurimac River, then we will have a two-hour uphill hike to Santa Rosa located at 2100 meters (6890 feet) above sea level where we will have lunch, we will have the chance to take pictures of orchids and Andean birds!

We continue our uphill hike for extra three hours to reach Maranpata located at 2850 meters (9350 feet) above sea level, then we head to Sunchupata, our closest camp site to Choquequiraro. Here we will have our tents set up and enjoy a delicious dinner, then a well-deserved rest.

Day 6: Choquequirao tour

Finally, it is time to reach the amazing Inca city of Choquequirao and enjoy the sunrise in the last Refuge of the Inca Empire!

After a very early breakfast, we will have an-hour hike to Choquequirao located at 3050 meters (10100 feet) above sea level, you and your guide will explore unique Inca city, never found by the Spanish Conquistadores!

After exploring the Cradle of gold, we will return to Sunchupata, then we will descend to Santa Rosa where we will have lunch.

After lunch we head back to Rosalina bridge then have a hike down to Chiquisca, where our tents will be set up to spend the night.

After our last breakfast on the trek, we will start our hike back to San Pedro de Cachora passing through Capuliyoc arriving in Cachora for lunch.

Day 8: Cusco City and Sacsayhuaman Ruins private tour

This morning, you are picked up from your hotel and embark on a memorable experience visiting the beautiful city of Cusco, another UNESCO World Heritage Site!

You tour starts with a smooth walk to the main attractions of this Inca city, its main square known as Plaza de Armas, then the Cusco Cathedral which construction started in 1559 and has an impressive unique collection of more than 400 paintings from Cusco school made during the 16th and 17th century. Next, you walk through the narrow Inca streets close the Plaza and appreciate the massive Inca walls which are the foundations of Cusco city.

Your tour includes a visit to the most impressive Inca temples, Koricancha, which is known as the temple of the sun. During the Inca time, the walls of this temple were lined in sheets of solid gold and its courtyard was decorated with statues and ornaments of gold! You tour includes a visit to Santo Domingo Church built by the Spanish colonists.

After visiting the city of Cusco, we will head to the Archaeological Park of Sacsayhuaman located on the outskirts of the city. Here you will learn more about the Incas’ secrets while exploring this amazing fortress and enjoying its beautiful perfectly fitted walls, built with massive stones!

Flight from Cusco to Lima

Estimated Flight time: one hour and ten minutes

Upon arrival at Lima airport, follow the signs for the baggage claim area, after collecting your luggage you will be in the domestic arrivals area, where our staff (who will have a sign with your name) will welcome you, and drive you to Miraflores area, where you can have lunch and then start your Lima private tour.

This afternoon, you are driven to the Historic Center of Lima, where you will learn about the colonial past of Peru and how it is still reflected in modern times.

The Historic Center of Lima known as “the City of the Kings”, was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1988 due to its outstanding value not only by its high concentration of historic monuments but also due to Lima played an important role in the history of the New World from the 16th to the 18th century.

Your guide will lead you through the main old streets of Lima Antigua and explore its beautiful monuments, balconies (Lima has more than 1500 balconies) and the Colonial houses adorned with Moorish-style balconies, where the first Spanish families lived during the colonial period.

Walking along the Plaza de Armas, see the baroque cathedral, the Government Palace, the Archbishop’s Palace with its big carved wooden balconies, and a visit inside the convent of San Francisco is a unique way to learn about the history of Peru.

By the way, San Francisco convent is home to the largest collection of religious art in the Americas and underneath the convent, lie extensive catacombs that served as the cemetery during the colonial period.

After your Lima tour you will be driven to Lima airport to board your flight back home.
