Itinerary

Day 1 :
Lima

After your flight lands at Lima Jorge Chavez airport, follow the signs for immigration, then walk to the baggage claim area, and then get to customs. After clearing customs, you will be in the international arrivals area, where our staff, who will be holding a sign with your name, will welcome you and drive you to your hotel located in Miraflores, the nicest and safest area of Lima, facing the Pacific Ocean!

Upon arrival at your hotel, our staff will assist you with your hotel check-in and all you may need. You and our staff will schedule your pre-tour meeting.

Overnight in Lima at Casa Andina Premium Miraflores Hotel – Superior Room
*Lima city is located at an altitude of 80 meters (262 feet) above sea level.

Early in the morning, you will be picked up from your hotel and driven to Lima airport to board your flight to Puerto Maldonado city, the gateway to the Tambopata Reserve in the Peruvian Amazon. You will be assisted with your flight check-in, baggage drop-off, and then escorted to the entrance to the security check area.
Notice that gates and departure times may change, please check the airport monitors.

Upon arrival at Puerto Maldonado airport, follow the signs for the baggage claim area, after collecting your luggage you will be in the arrivals area, where our staff, who will be holding a sign with your name, will welcome you.

Transfer from Puerto Maldonado airport to Posada Amazonas Lodge office
Estimated driving time from Airport to lodge office: ten minutes

Our team will transport you to the Amazon Lodge office located in the town, where you'll complete the registration process. You'll have the opportunity to experience the forest ambiance in the gardens, store any extra luggage securely, and subsequently depart from Puerto Maldonado. We will have a one-hour drive to the Tambopata River Port situated within the Native Community of Infierno.

You'll embark on a boat excursion along the Tambopata River to reach the eco-lodge, Posada Amazonas, nestled in the heart of the rainforest. The boat journey is an exciting experience, offering sightings of unique birds, monkeys, and local people along the river edges. A nutritious and delightful boxed lunch will be provided during the boat ride. Upon reaching the lodge, you'll get comfortable in your lodging.

When you arrive at Posada Amazonas, the lodge manager will extend a warm welcome and provide you with essential instructions for navigation and safety.

Kindly be aware that the guide will furnish you with essential details prior to each outing. Your schedule might undergo alterations due to weather changes during different seasons, which could impact the accessibility of specific regions.

Birds of Tambopata

Later today, you will join your tour group and begin a trek that takes you to the 40-meter-high Canopy Tower with scaffolding. A secure staircase in the center provides a safe way to access the platforms above. From this vantage point, you will enjoy breathtaking views of the extensive stretches of untouched forest intersected by the meandering Tambopata River. Occasionally, colorful birds like toucans, parrots, and macaws can be spotted flying across the sky, or various species of birds in canopy flocks may land on the nearby treetops.

Awaken to the jungle's vibrant symphony and kickstart your day with a hearty breakfast. In the Amazon, the wildlife capitalizes on the early morning's cooler temperature and gentle light, and we follow suit. While you're on vacation, your guide may recommend some early morning activities that are well worth your while.

Tres Chimbadas, an oxbow lake, is a short boat ride followed by a forty-five-minute hike from Posada Amazonas. Here, you'll glide across the lake in a catamaran, on the lookout for the resident family of nine giant river otters (spotted by 60% of our lake visitors). The lake's edge is also a habitat for caimans, hoatzins, and horned screamers. Otters are most active from dawn until around eight or nine AM.

Later in the day, your guide will escort you to the Centro Ñape, a community initiative that creates medicinal products from forest plants, offering them to patients at their small clinic. They've established a trail that educates visitors about the various medicinal and other uses of selected plants.

Tonight, you're welcome to join a night stroll, a time when numerous mammals are in motion but remain elusive. More readily observable are frogs, showcasing forms and sounds as unique as their own natural stories.

Overnight in Posada Amazonas Lodge – Comfort Room

Savor your final morning awakening to the rainforest's lively sounds - parakeets chattering among trees, monkeys frolicking in the treetops. Following breakfast, you'll begin your boat journey back to El Infierno community, then proceed to Posada Amazonas office to retrieve your belongings. Subsequently, you'll be transported to the airport for your flight to Cusco city. Our team will assist you with check-in, baggage drop-off, and guide you to the security check area entrance. Keep in mind that gate assignments and departure schedules may alter, kindly verify on the airport screens.

Flight from Puerto Maldonado city to Cusco City

Upon arrival at Cusco airport, simply follow the signs to the baggage claim area. Once you have retrieved your luggage, you'll find yourself in the arrivals area where our friendly staff will warmly greet you and accompany you on a scenic drive to the Sacred Valley. This valley is known for its comfortable climate and provides the perfect environment for acclimatizing to the altitude. As you make your way to your hotel, you'll have the opportunity to visit the Awanacancha center and explore the vibrant Pisac Market, immersing yourself in the local culture and traditions.

Pisac ruins and Market

Your journey commences with a smooth drive that takes you through the fascinating Pisac ruins and vibrant market. Along the route, you'll be treated to sweeping panoramic views of lush hills and picturesque fields adorned with towering cornstalks and flourishing potato crops. Our ascent will lead to the hilltop, where the magnificent Pisac Ruins proudly command attention. The ancient archaeological site of Pisac, nestled atop a mountain ridge, awaits your exploration. Within this historical haven, you'll traverse age-old stone terraces, intricate stone carvings, and ceremonial plazas, all while your experienced guide unveils the fascinating historical narrative of this Inca masterpiece.

Following your comprehensive exploration of the Pisac ruins, an inviting descent to the quaint Pisac village and its bustling market will follow suit. Maras & Moray

After a delightful lunch, our tour begins with a scenic drive to the Andean village of Maras, situated at an impressive altitude of 3400 meters (11,152 feet) above sea level. Take in the picturesque beauty of this small village as you immerse yourself in its local charm and atmosphere.

Continuing our expedition, we make our way to the intriguing archaeological site of Moray. As you arrive, you will be greeted by a breathtaking sight: enormous terraced circular depressions spread out before you, showcasing the remarkable engineering prowess of the Incas. Discover the sophisticated irrigation system that once served this site, which is believed to have functioned as an agricultural center and experimental laboratory for crop development during Incan times.

After exploring the awe-inspiring agricultural terraces of Moray, we venture towards "Las Salineras de Maras," an extraordinary salt pan complex that dates back to pre-Inca times. Witness the intricate network of salt ponds as they cascade down the mountainside, creating a mesmerizing visual spectacle. Marvel at the harmonious blend of natural beauty and human ingenuity as you learn about the ancient salt extraction methods still employed by the local communities.

Having experienced these remarkable Incan wonders, we will then safely transport you back to your hotel, concluding the day's adventure.

This morning, your guide will introduce you to the fascinating Inca terraces of the Ollantaytambo fortress. You will not only be treated to breathtaking views but also learn about the historical significance of this site as one of the last strongholds of the Incas against the Spanish invasion.

Your tour will also include a visit to Qosqo Ayllu, an ancient Inca town that has preserved its original walls and layout from the Inca era. It is remarkable to witness how this town continues to be inhabited to this day, offering a glimpse into the enduring legacy of the Incas.

After exploring Ollantaytambo, you will be transferred to the train station, where you will board the vista dome train that will take you to Aguas Calientes (Machu Picchu Pueblo).

This morning, you will be picked up from your hotel for an unforgettable experience exploring the beautiful city of Cusco, a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site. The tour begins with a leisurely stroll to the city's main attractions, starting with the renowned Plaza de Armas, the central square. From there, you will visit the Cusco Cathedral, an architectural masterpiece constructed in 1559. Inside, you will find a remarkable collection of over 400 paintings from the Cusco school, dating back to the 16th and 17th centuries. As you wander through the narrow Inca streets surrounding the Plaza, you will marvel at the massive Inca walls that form the foundation of the city.

Your tour also includes a visit to the magnificent Koricancha, known as the Temple of the Sun during the Inca era. After breakfast, you will be picked up from your hotel and transferred to the bus terminal, where you will embark on an unforgettable adventure aboard the tourist bus bound for Puno. Along the way, you will have the opportunity to stop at captivating towns and points of interest that add depth and meaning to the journey. Your adventure commences as you set sail across the serene expanse of Lake Titicaca, the world's highest navigable lake. Your first destination is the Uros Islands, where you'll encounter a truly remarkable sight. These man-made floating islands, constructed from totora reeds, have been home to the Uros people for generations. As you step onto these buoyant islands, you'll be greeted by friendly smiles and warm hospitality. This morning/afternoon you will be driven to the city of the Kings and explore the beautiful monuments, Colonial houses adorned with Moorish-style balconies, their main Plazas like San Martin and Plaza de Armas, a view of the baroque cathedral, the Governor’s Palace, the Archbishop's Palace with its big carved wooden balconies, and a guided visit inside the convent of San Francisco which is home to the largest collection of religious art in the Americas. Underneath the convent lie extensive catacombs that served as the cemetery during the colonial period.

Your tour includes a visit to the beautiful olive tree park and “Park of Love” where you will have a beautiful view of the Pacific Ocean! After your Lima tour, your guide can recommend a nice Restaurant to have dinner overlooking the Pacific Ocean!
