Day 1: Arrive in Lima

After your flight lands at Lima Jorge Chavez airport, follow the signs for immigration, then walk to the baggage claim area, and then get to customs. After clearing customs, you will be in the International arrivals area, where our staff, who will be holding a sign with your name, will welcome you and drive you to your hotel located in Miraflores, the nicest and safest area of Lima, facing the Pacific Ocean!

Upon arrival at your hotel, our staff will assist you with your hotel check-in and all you may need.

Day 2: Flight from Lima to Iquitos

Estimated Flight time: one hour and fifty minutes

After breakfast, you will be picked up from your hotel and driven to Lima airport to board your flight to Iquitos City. You will be assisted with your flight check-in, baggage drop-off, and then escorted to the entrance to the security check area. Notice that gates and departure times may change, please check the airport monitors.

Upon arrival at Iquitos airport, you will be welcomed by our representative and driven to Muyuna Lodge office in town, where you will have a short briefing and join your tour group.

Iquitos-Muyuna Lodge.

You will be escorted to the pier to board the fast boat to Muyuna Lodge located 87 miles upriver south of Iquitos city, at Tamshiyacu-Tahuayo community Reserve on the banks of Yanayacu River. During the boat trip through the amazing Amazon River, you will observe how people of the local communities live and sail on the Amazon River as if it were a highway in the Amazon.

After almost three hours of sailing you will arrive at Muyuna Lodge, after a welcome drink (fruit juice) you will be accommodated in your room.
Upon arrival at the lodge, you will have a briefing about your stay in the Amazon, safety issues, excursions, list of animals seen in the area, what to wear and reply any questions you may have.

Leoncito walking tour.

This afternoon, you will have a walking tour to appreciate the immense variety of flora around the Muyuna area. You can taste the water that Uncaria tomentosa (cat’s claw) has within its vines – which is used to cure cancer and AIDS. You will also be amazed by the huge Ceiba tree. In addition, you will see the world’s smallest monkey, the pigmy marmoset, and the squirrel and tamarin monkeys. If you’re lucky, you’ll see the howler monkey, whose deafening roar can be heard many miles away.
After dinner you will enjoy a boat excursion for nocturnal Cayman spotting, observation of birds and mammals.

Day 3: Amazon Lagoons, Canoeing and Piranha Fishing

After a very early morning, you will have a 20-minute boat trip to Sapote lagoon to enjoy watching parrots, jacanas, kingfishers, herons, panguana, partridges, pigeons, cormorants and horned screamers. Then we head to Moena lagoon where you can observe sloth, monkeys, squirrel, monk, stump, and other amazon animals like turtles and iguanas.

At 10:30 am. We return to the lodge to enjoy your time canoeing or kayaking in the river before Lunch.

Piranha fishing

This afternoon, we travel by boat to Purura and Corrientes lagoons where you will enjoy a piranha fishing adventure and watching the colorful Amazon bird of hoatzin or “shansho”.

20:00 Nocturnal boat trip to search for birds and Iguanas

This evening you will enjoy the amazing wildlife of the Amazon during the night.

Swimming in the Amazon

After breakfast, we will have a boat ride to Buenos Aires beach in the Amazon RIver, a calm area where you will watch, and swim surrounded by the pink and gray dolphins. On the way back to the lodge, you will see the biggest aquatic plant in the world, the famous Victoria Regia and we will search for the Amazonian iguanas.

Muyuna Lodge – Iquitos

After lunch, we will board our fast boat and return to Iquitos and then to the airport to board your flight back to Lima.

Flight Iquitos – Lima

On arrival at Lima airport, follow the signs for the baggage claim area, after collecting your luggage you will be in the domestic arrivals area, where our staff (who will have a sign with your name) will welcome you, and drive you to your hotel located in Miraflores, the nicest and safest area of Lima, facing the Pacific Ocean!

Day 5: Lima city tour

Hotel pickup time: 09:30 am.

This morning, you are picked up from your hotel and join your tour group. You will be driven to the Historic Center of Lima, where you will learn about the colonial past of Peru and how it is still reflected in modern times.

The Historic Center of Lima known as “the City of the Kings”, was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1988 due to its outstanding value not only by its high concentration of historic monuments but also due to Lima played an important role in the history of the New World from the 16th to the 18th century.

Your guide will lead you through the main old streets of Lima Antigua and explore its beautiful monuments, balconies (Lima has more than 1500 balconies) and the Colonial houses adorned with Moorish-style balconies, where the first Spanish families lived during the colonial period.

Walking along the Plaza de Armas, see the baroque cathedral, the Government Palace, the Archbishop’s Palace with its big carved wooden balconies, and a visit inside the convent of San Francisco is a unique way to learn about the history of Peru.

By the way, San Francisco convent is home to the largest collection of religious art in the Americas and underneath the convent, lie extensive catacombs that served as the cemetery during the colonial period.

After your Lima tour you will be driven to Lima airport to board your flight back home.
